McDermott illness mystery remains

Kidderminster Harriers are no nearer to establishing the extent of the illness to David McDermott as the winger remains in hospital under observation.

The 21-year-old was admitted late last week after feeling unwell and doctors have been so far unable to get to the root of the problem, despite a series of tests.

On Monday, McDermott had an internal examination which was hoped would provide an outcome, but has so far failed to solve the mystery.

Worried Harriers boss Mark Yates today remains concerned about the health of his player, with the prospect of his return on the pitch the last of his worries.

The manager said: "David is in a bad way to be honest - we don't exactly know what it is.

"His health is all that is important - that makes it sound very serious but in reality we still don't know what it is and that's the baffling thing.

"Firstly on Saturday morning they thought it was an infection, but we've now been told that it isn't.

"On Monday he was having some cameras put into him to have a look around, see how bad it is and to see what's occurring.

"Bar going to see the top specialist in the world, we have done what we can. We sent him to see his own doctor and into hospital.

"I think on Friday morning it got bad enough for him that they deemed it necessary to keep him in.

"He has been there since and we hope he recovers as quickly as possible. It's a blow for him and us but football isn't really a concern."
