Harriers sweat on hospitalised winger

Kidderminster Harriers are hoping to get to the bottom of the illness that has hospitalised winger David McDermott by the end of the day.

The 21-year-old was admitted on Friday complaining of feeling unwell and missed Saturday's 2-0 win at Matlock in the FA Trophy, after what had started as a sickness bug had failed to clear as expected.

Now McDermott will undergo a series of tests today, which should finally establish the condition and it's severity.

Manager Mark Yates faces an anxious wait to see what comes of the player's medical assessment.

He said: "David is still in hospital, he has been there for a few days now and that is the best place for him until we can get to the bottom of what is wrong. It started as a sickness bug, but he has had it for a couple of weeks now.

"We should know a little bit more by the end of the day, but whether we can fully establish the root of the problem remains to be seen."

Harriers booked their place in the second round by virtue of Saturday's win and will find out their next FA Trophy opponents after today's draw at FA headquarters in London.

Yates is hoping for another kind tie.

He added: "Ideally, we would want a home game and miss one of the bigger clubs, but we don't have a magic wand. There are a lot of good teams left in the competition and we get what we get."
