McPhee ready to answer the call
Kidderminster Harriers captain Chris McPhee is ready to answer a potential striking crisis in the FA Trophy at Matlock if the call is made by manager Mark Yates.
The team will definitely miss Ryan Charles on Saturday, who is not allowed to play in the tie under the terms of his loan from Luton, while Yates is still awaiting an answer from Kettering to see if his other loan forward Damian Spencer will be passed to play.
If both miss out, that would leave only Robbie Matthews - back from suspension - and the untried Aaron Farrell as the only out-and-out options.
Midfielder McPhee has filled the breach up front more than once when needed, and will happily do so again if called upon by the manager.
He said: "I just enjoy playing football, if the manager asks to play up front then I am delighted to do that for him, because that shows the faith he has in me to do a good job.
"I used to be a striker when I started out and would not be happy if I was swapped around back then, but I have developed myself and now I am accustomed to being a midfield player."
Harriers will also miss defender Martin Riley to a one-match ban, with young Tom Sharpe in the frame to step in for only his second start for the club.
McPhee believes that, whoever plays, the line-up will stay strong.
He said: "The manager is going to have to reshuffle a bit but we have got the squad to do that and competition between players. We have got options and, whoever Mark goes with, I am sure that they will be prepared properly and given plenty of advice."
The skipper and his side will be wary of a banana skin against Unibond League opposition, after tumbling out of the FA Cup to Blue Square Premier Fleetwood after a replay in October - with McPhee sent off in the first game.
He said: "These lower leagues side's are usually well organised, big and strong, as Fleetwood showed us in the FA Cup. We can't let that happen again, this is the best competition that we are left in and we need to make our mark.
"It all starts on Saturday, hopefully we can put a good performance together and win the game. We just want to get into the next round with no hiccups."
