Rangers' Moult winning fitness race
Stafford Rangers midfielder Jake Moult is winning his race to be fit for Saturday's home game against Droylsden.
The 20-year-old sat out last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blyth Spartans with a foot injury, after suffering heavy bruising in a collison with team-mate Jermaine Johnson in the previous game at Hinckley.
But Moult has been able to jog despite the pain and only just failed a late fitness test before the Blyth game.
The playmaker underwent a series of assessments at last night's training session, and is now hopeful of making the next match.
He said: "The foot still feels a little bit sore, but it's nothing I can't carry on with now. I have jogged a lot, I even did on Saturday. I maybe could have risked playing in the game, but there would have been the risk of making it worse and then being out for a month.
"If I am fit on Saturday then I hope to start, because I don't want to be sat on the bench. I wouldn't even do that if I wasn't ready, so if I am in the squad I will be raring to go. I may be on the bench if that is what the gaffer decides, but that is not what I want obviously.
"It's going to be a tough selection for Chris with me and Levi Reid looking to get back in, but I am sure it's a problem he is happy to have."
Moult's place in the Rangers team was taken by veteran midfielder Tony Dinning against Blyth, who has played for 11 different clubs in the Football League over a 15-year career.
The youngster knows Dinning from when they were both at Port Vale in 2005/06.
He said: It takes me back to my Port Vale days with Tony, he was a pro there when I was just a kid playing in the reserves. It's a good thing I didn't clean his boots, I would never hear the end of it! But he is great and brings a lot of experience to the team.
"He organises the players and is happy to talk you through things about your game."
