Rangers' Moult faces fitness race
Stafford Rangers midfielder Jake Moult faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday's visit of Blyth Spartans as the wait goes on to discover the full extent of his foot injury.
The 20-year-old had to be replaced 54 minutes into last Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Hinckley United after a collision with team-mate Jermaine Johnson, and is still a doubt for the next game.
There is no break, but heavy bruising has yet to heal enough for him to train properly, and all the player can do is wait to see if he can play a more significant part in Thursday night's training session.
Moult recalls the painful moment when the injury was suffered.
He said: "It was an embarrassing one really, I have gone to clear the ball and 'JJ' has gone for it as well, I hacked it away but copped the full force of his kick. It was a total impact, the whole of my ankle and the bottom of my foot is really bruised.
"I am just trying to get that down at the minute, so it's probably too early to say whether I will be OK for Saturday. It will probably be more like tomorrow or Thursday when I will know more."
The Rangers playmaker has also welcomed the arrival of Stoke youngster Warwick Alexander to Marston Road on 'work experience,' with the 18-year-old making his debut at Hinckley. He recommended the teenager, after seeing him play with his brother Louis for the Potters reserve team.
The two have been friends for years, with Moult helping the new boy out with a lift to training and games.
He said: "We are good mates, he knows all of my family but this is the first time I have played with him.
"The manager had a little chat with me about it and how I thought he would do for us, so yes I was able to help a little bit in that respect. He travels with me, because at just 18 years old he doesn't have a car of his own.
"I think he did really well on is debut, he worked hard in putting himself about and gave us a physical presence."
