Rushall Olympic 1 Quorn 0

Rushall Olympic recorded their first victory in nine attempts as they claimed a crucial single goal success at home to Quorn in the UniBond First Division South.

A clinical finish from Damien Charie just five minutes into the contest helped the Pics complete the double over their Leicestershire opponents and keep in touch with the play-off chasers.

The hosts enjoyed the perfect start to an entertaining contest when defender Kris Matthews let in the Pics front runner who stole a march on his marker before running through on goal, rounding keeper Michael Payne and expertly slotting home into an empty net.

Quorn were then forced into an immediate substitution as their number one sustained a shoulder injury attempting to prevent the goal and, with no keeper on the bench, was replaced between the posts by defender Ashley Robinson.

Indeed, midway through the first period and the visitors' stand-in stopper was soon in action as he bravely blocked out Ramone Stephens' venomous drive after he had combined well with Levi Ramsey. The remainder of the game continued with some engaging end-to-end action from both sides.

Quorn were restricted to a minimal number of half chances, while Olympic could have extended their advantage had the referee not turned down a big penalty appeal just after the hour mark as Stephens' surge into the box was ended by what appeared to be the trailing leg of a defender.

Rushall held on for the win and it should restore some confidence ahead of Saturday's trip to face local rivals Chasetown, who currently sit two places above Olympic.
