Wolves fans are planning a spectacular show of support for their team before the kick-off in the Premier League clash with Birmingham City.

More than 11,000 of them with seats in the Stan Cullis and Jack Harris Stands are being urged to help create an eye-catching montage on Sunday.

Pieces of card are being left in their places and these will create a memorable image when all held up at the same time at the Molineux Stadium. Exact details of the design are being kept secret so as not to spoil the surprise, but it will be immediately recognised by the Wolves supporters.

It has been painstakingly constructed by father and son Wolves fanatics Paul and Tim King from Finchfield.

Paul, 62-year-old boss of Wolverhampton city centre water pump manufacturer E.P. Services and website designer Tim, 32, run the supporters cyber forum Wolvesfans.org.

They have spent more than 30 hours on the project and a 45-strong team of volunteers have been sticking the cards to the seats in the right sequence of gold, black and white. The arduous job was made easier by them using 25 Express & Star newspaper delivery bags to help carry and distribute the cards that are provided by the club.

Similar displays have been attempted twice before – at the QPR game last season and the West Ham match this term – but the organisers are determined to make this the best yet.

Paul, who has supported the team for 50 years, said: "This is mainly aimed at the younger fans by providing some pre-match entertainment and helping to create a good atmosphere. If it is done as well as possible it should be a great sight.

"We are all keeping our fingers crossed that there is no strong wind or else the cards will be blown all over the place. I have been anxiously studying the long-range weather forecast and hopefully the conditions will be calm – even if the fans are not."
