Ince's play-off challenge for Walsall

Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince has challenged the team to gatecrash the play-offs and maintain their best run for over a year.

TheTrinidad and Tobago international helped the Saddlers to back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 2-0 victory over Stockport on Saturday.

It meant they have won three straight games – including the 1-0 FA Cup victory at Stourbridge – for the first time since last September.

It has pushed them to 10th in League One and Ince believes they must capitalise on their current form.

He said: "The aim is to get up to the Championship. We have been there or there abouts for the past couple of years.

"If we have a good run and really push ourselves I don't see why we can't be in the play-offs and push for promotion. In this league on any given day whoever wants it more will win the games.

"We have a young team and a small squad but we have been doing well for the last couple of seasons."

The 37-year-old believes the Saddlers are performing well against their better-funded rivals.

He said: "It's just about consistency. We have a young unit and we're just lacking consistency, but if you look at Walsall against the other teams in this division, if we had the budget and some of the players they have we would be flying.

"With the young team we have I think we are doing well."

But it is the Saddlers' veterans, 33-year-olds Darren Byfield and Steve Jones, who are earning the plaudits from Ince at the moment.

The goalkeeper said: "I think everybody can look threatening, but it's about being fit and being in the right places.

"But on any given day one of our three front men would give us goals and they work well together. It's up to us to work hard and give them confidence to score goals."

The Saddlers will discover their FA Cup second round opponents when Brentford host Gateshead tonight. Walsall travel to the winners on Saturday November 28.
