Ranglou 14 RH 14Stafford Rangers matchwinner Jake Moult insists the points were all that mattered after a valuable win against Gloucester.

The midfielder picked a good time to score his second goal of the season with a stunning volley eight minutes into Saturday's Blue Square North clash at Marston Road, for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Manager Chris Brindley had pinpointed the clash as 'must win' and the result opened up a five point gap between Rangers and the relegation places, with the club now sitting in a stable mid-table position of 13th.

Moult's performance underlined that the 20-year-old is back to his best after previously struggling with a hip injury, and the player can see the benefits with each game that passes.

He said: "I am obviously very happy with the goal, but the main thing was to get the three points that were so much needed against a side that were very close to us in the table. As the gaffer said, it was the ultimate six pointer so we are delighted it has gone our way.

"On a personal note, I am feeling fitter in every game, it has took me a while to get back to my best after that injury but I am getting there now."

Rangers came into the match after a busy week where the loan of right-back Ashley Wooliscroft was extended by a further month, and the Fleetwood defender will even be allowed to play in Saturday's FA Trophy tie at Blyth Spartans.

Defender Scott Lycett has also been signed after leaving Hednesford, and was on the bench on Saturday.

Moult is looking forward to seeing his new team-mate in action.

He said: "We haven't had the chance to actually train with Scott yet, last week we couldn't train on the pitch because of the weather so we only really saw him on match day."

Rangers' win was however soured by a back injury to top scorer Nick Wellecomme, who is now a doubt for Saturday's game after being replaced five minutes before half-time.

Moult has his fingers crossed for the striker.

He said: "I hope it is not serious, Nick is not one of those players that goes off lightly so he must have been hurt. If I am honest, I don't hold out much hope on that, because if he had to be replaced it must have been bad.

"All we can do is see how he is in the week."
