Creighton's hopes on Harriers return

Former Kidderminster Harriers captain Mark Creighton believes '99 per cent' of home fans will give him a good reception in his first return to Aggborough with his new club Oxford.

The 28-year-old made 158 appearances as an old fashioned centre-half for Harriers over three years with the club, two of those as manager Mark Yates' captain.

But Creighton left to join the league leaders in the summer for an undisclosed fee just two days after the club released eight first-team players, with chairman Barry Norgrove later claiming that the player had asked to leave.

That left some fans angry with their former idol, and their paths have not crossed since.

But their former skipper wants to let bygones be bygone come Saturday on a ground where he shed blood, sweat and tears for three years.

Creighton said: "I would like to think that I would get a decent reception, because I wore my heart on my sleeve for that club. When I crossed that white line, I always gave it my all, and if people can't respect that then I don't really want to be associated with them.

"But I think 99 per cent of the fans will give me a good reception and I am looking forward to seeing them. I will certainly give them a round of applause when I come out."

Nonetheless, Creighton is still revered by a large part of the Aggborough faithful, after being plucked from further down the non-league ladder with Redditch and thrust into the limelight by his mentor Yates.

It was a move that changed the former satellite dish fitter's life.

He said: "It was a legendary time for me, I have got a lot of fond memories but it was time to move on. Certain fans have give me a bit of stick as to why I left, but they don't know the ins and outs of it.

"It wasn't a money move at all, it was about which club would be right for me, and at this moment in time it looks like I have made the right decision. I miss the Kidderminster lads and the gaffer, but I am enjoying my time here.

"The big crowds and the stadium are very nice and it's an honour to be at Oxford at the minute."

Harriers have a change of fixture on November 28, when AFC Wimbledon will now be the visitors in the Blue Square Premier, as both clubs are out of the FA Cup with the second round due to commence that weekend.

The Aggborough club were due to host Barrow, but the Cumbria outfit have progressed in the competition.
