More to come from me vows Riley

Kidderminster Harriers defender Martin Riley has vowed there is more to come from him as the young defender continues to grow in stature.

The 20-year-old is into his second season at Aggborough but only his first as an automatic choice, and is now looked upon as an 'old head' at the back.

In fact, only the former Wolves youngster and left-back Lee Baker are left from last season's back-line, with Duane Courtney brought in at right-back and Gavin Caines brought in to partner Riley.

The results have been mixed but Harriers have still kept clean sheets in the league at a ratio of one in three, and have not been beaten by more than two goals.

Riley has led the charge from the back but still feels his best years are in front of him and, when that peak is reached, the young stopper wants to run with the ball as far as possible.

He said: "I have been fairly happy with this season, but I still feel that there is a lot more to come. I don't feel that I have reached my best yet.

"I may have played 50-60 games, but I am still a young lad growing into the professional game and learning my craft. I am just looking to get better in every game.

"Every player is ambitious, I want to get as high as possible through the leagues and make a good living out of the game."

Harriers have been left to stew on the training field this week after their FA Cup exit at Fleetwood left them without a game for two weeks, until Oxford are the visitors on November 14.

All of the squad would rather be preparing for a game, but Riley is glad of the time to get back to basics.

He said: "It has been a bit of a sombre week around the place so far. But what the break has done has given us the chance to work on several things on the training field.

"It's up to us to keep the rust off and I am sure the gaffer has plenty lined up for us."
