Boss urged to keep loan defender

Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates has been urged to keep hold of Danny Andrew by one of the players holding back the tide with the loan star in defence.

Martin Riley partnered Gavin Caines at centre-half as Andrew made his debut at left-back in the 2-0 defeat at Cambridge on Saturday, with Duane Courtney in his regular spot on the right.

Although Harriers lost the game, most were left impressed by the Peterborough loanee, who hardly put a foot wrong in deputising for the suspended Lee Baker despite just one training session with his new team-mates.

Baker is the only natural left-footer in the squad and is out for another two games, thus forcing manager Mark Yates' hand in the transfer market.

And Riley believes the squad would be a lot worse off without their new addition.

He said: "Danny did well, he was steady and solid. He certainly looks comfortable, I can hardly remember him putting a foot wrong. It's really going to do him some good getting games here, because he has all the makings of a good player.

"Lee is the only left-footer in our team, so to have another in the squad is bound to be a good addition. We need one really, competition for places is good for any squad. I suppose it comes down to a lot of factors - money, whether the lad will play when 'Bakes' is fit and so on.

"But Danny looks the part, in an ideal world it would be great to keep him."
