Darren McDermott is ready to admit defeat in his battle with the scales after keeping his English middleweight title in Stoke-on-Trent.

'The Black Country Bodysnatcher' will put his middleweight crown and his reputation on the line against Danny Butler at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke on November 13.

With a good win on the Hatton Promotions bill, the 31-year-old could play himself into the frame for the vacant Lonsdale belt given up by Birmingham's Matthew Macklin after his successful shot at the European title.

'Macca' has gone for the British and Commonwealth crown's without success in the last 16 months, and can ill afford any more hard luck stories this time.

If that happens, the all-action boxer fears it could be all over.

He said: "If this guy turns me over I may as well hang up my gloves. I would be a hell of a scalp for him, so I am going to have to give it 120 per cent to make sure that does not happen.

"There's no more excuses, I have to win. Fingers crossed, if everything goes alright, I will be back in for that British title again after this."
