Mave the Rave dies, 76
A lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers fan who was known as "Mave the Rave" has died after losing her battle with lung cancer.
Mavis Lodge, aged 76, from Dibdale Road, Dudley, had been going to matches at the Molineux since the 1950s.
The grandmother used to a enjoy a drink and chat with fellow supporters in The Wanderer pub at the back of the ground where she earned her nickname. She had been a season ticket holder in the Jack Harris stand for the past seven years and her daughter Alison said she loved joining in the chants.Some of her most memorable games included the 1960 FA Cup final against Blackburn, which Wolves won 3-0, and the 2003 play-off final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
She was born in Sedgley and during her working life she was a steel guillotine operator at R&F Steel Stockholders, Ham Lane, Kingswinford. The former Dormston School head girl learned to drive at the age of 59 and passed her test first time.
Mrs Lodge, who has six children and five grandchildren, was diagnosed with lung cancer in June last year. She died on October 14.
Her daughter Alison, aged 47, of Dibdale Road, said: "She loved her football and loved going to the pub for a drink before and after the match."
Her funeral will take place at Gornal Wood Crematorium on Friday at 2.10pm. Donations in lieu of flowers will be given to Cancer Research UK.
