Steve Bunce's big fight verdict

Boxing pundit Steve Bunce has backed West Bromwich's fighting duo Young Mutley and Marcus Portman to bring back Midland titles.

The straight-talking voice of the sport, who lives in Lichfield with his wife Jacqueline, will be at Nottingham's Trent FM Arena tonight as the Black Country boys do battle tonight on the undercard of Carl Froch's defence of the WBC super middleweight title against Andre Dirrell.

Former British welterweight title holder Mutley takes on reigning champion Dave Ryan as the hot favourite.

His Derby-based opponent has just one defeat in 10 with two knockouts - one of those a stoppage of Mutley's 'First Team' stablemate Scott Evans.

But Bunce warns that if the 33-year-old veteran is at his best, Ryan doesn't stand a chance.

He said: "Mutley can bang, which is not maybe Dave's strongest point, but I just hope that he doesn't underestimate him.

"This is a huge fight for both of these guys and I would think neither will hold anything back, so we could be in for a good show.

"But if both are at their best, it's a Mutley win – and by knockout."

Portman takes on Tyan Booth for the vacant light middleweight crown in a British title eliminator, with the former WBF champion looking to get going again after unsuccessful shots at both the British and Commonwealth belts.

The 28-year-old is in there with an opponent who has already lost five fights and has won by knockout just once in 16 attempts.

But Booth has only been stopped once, and Bunce believes this is a fight that will definitely go the distance.

He said: "Tyan can punch a bit but that is not his strength, it's endurance boxing and that is where he is suited to Marcus.

"Both of these guys will come expecting to go all eight rounds and this one will go the distance, but Portman's hand will be raised at the final bell."

Bunce will be hosting 'An Audience with' at the Dubliner pub on the High Street in Digbeth, Birmingham on Tuesday night.

Admission is £6 for amateur boxers, £10 to anyone involved in amateur boxing and £15 to the general public. Pre-order tickets from www.buncelive.com.
