Just a fortnight out for McPhee
Kidderminster Harriers captain Chris McPhee should be back in action within a couple of weeks after his ankle injury was revealed to be not as bad as first feared.
The Aggborough skipper was forced off in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Luton, after a rash challenge that saw opposition player Rossi Jarvis sent off.
But subsequent medical attention has shown bruised rather than torn ligaments, leaving McPhee to rest up and heal with a view to a quick return to action.
Saturday's visit of Crawley will come too soon, but there is some hope the player could return for the FA Cup home tie against Fleetwood a week later.
Should that be a push too far, the trip to Cambridge on October 31 is pretty much nailed on.
Manager Mark Yates said: "Chris is a lot better than we anticipated, but he won't be back for the weekend. We will have to see how long exactly he will be out for, but Saturday is too early. We will continue to assess and work with him the early part of next week, but he keeps telling me he is a quick healer.
"It could be that he will be fit for the FA Cup next week, or the league game at Cambridge the week after. At worst, it will be a couple of weeks."
Harriers will also discover whether their appeal to rescind Robbie Matthews' red card against Luton has been successful later today.
The big striker was sent off for an alleged stamp on goalkeeper Mark Tyler and his starting spot on Saturday hangs in the balance.
Yates said: "We are hopeful that the evidence we have presented to the FA proves our case - Robbie didn't stamp on anyone. It would be even more of an injustice if he actually has to serve a three-match ban.
"But we are in the hands of the disciplinary hearing and if we don't have him for Saturday, then there's nothing we can do."
