Right formula the key for assistant
Stafford Rangers assistant manager Darren Read believes the team need to find the right formula before they can make a success of their Blue Square North season.
The Marston Road men return to action on Saturday at home to Stalybridge Celtic, looking to bounce back from a three-game winless streak.
It's at the back where the problems are most prevalent after just one clean sheet this season, but up front the goals are also coming - Nick Wellecomme's seven-goal haul is the joint second best in the league.
The Rangers No 2 believes it's striking a balance that a fledgling squad is having problems dealing with, as manager Chris Brindley continues to search for the experienced lynchpin missing since former skipper Wayne Daniel left for Worcester in the summer.
In the meantime the burden continues to fall on the young guns, who Read believes have all the talent in the world but need the nous to turn that potential into results.
He said: "We are pleased with what we have, but maybe we just lack that little bit of experience at certain times in games. We need the sort of player who can just put his foot on the ball and calm things down a bit.
"Our young team can be a bit like a red flag to a bull at the minute, and that is what we are working on. The boys will learn, but we need to learn when we are on the pitch at the minute.
"If you watch us train, the boys are absolutely top drawer. It's like watching Brazil, but come match day it's very erratic.
"Good in spells, poor in others - but we are getting punished for every mistake."
