Former Wolves favourite Ronnie Correy reckons team spirit will take the club all the way to the Elite League title.

The 42-year-old was an enthralled spectator at Monmore Green as Wolves built a precious 16-point lead for tonight's second leg.

As a veteran of the club's Premier League title success in 1996, the fast-talking Californian sees the parallels both in team morale and points from every rider.

He said: "I know they're a strong team at home, and I knew they had to make the points there. But I had my money on them anyway, because I reckon they're a stronger team. They will pull it off, I reckon.

"They have a good lead. Swindon are a good, strong side on their own territory – but 16 points is a good hold, isn't it?

"I think they're all up for it. They're the better side at the moment, with the junior riders doing really well for them. When you get six or seven riders in form, that's good. That's what makes the wins.

"When we won the league that one year in 1996, it was the same thing. It takes a whole team to make an effort.

"That's what they've got at the moment, everybody is scoring the points. I think they've got it right now."

Correy has always been held in high esteem at the club, not only for an avalanche of points down the years but for his influence on morale. Team spirit is currently sky-high in the camp but Correy reckons that's the Monmore way.

He said: "It always has been at Wolverhampton, that's part of the history of Wolves,. Everybody gets along well – and that's what makes a winning team."

Now retired from the shale, 'Rocket Ronnie' has the ideal work-life balance for a doting American dad.

He said: "I sell Harley-Davidsons and raise children! I've got a six-year-old and a two-year-old, so I've got my hands full at the moment.

"I always wanted to work for Harley. I enjoy it, it's right in my line. Being American, it's natural!"
