Hotshot forward has goals in mind
Stafford Rangers striker Nick Wellecomme has targeted extending his own hot streak in front of a tightened back-line when the team return to action after the international break.
The Marston Road club are on an enforced break as the FA Cup enters the third qualifying phase tomorrow, with Chris Brindley's men dumped out of the competition in the last round by Midland Alliance side Coventry Sphinx.
Rangers will not be in action until the visit of Stalybridge Celtic a week on Saturday, where Wellecomme will be looking to keep up his sterling work so far in the campaign.
The 25-year-old is currently the joint second top scorer in the Blue Square North with seven goals, already double the player's tally for last season.
But, with the team losing two of their last three games by the odd goal in five and drawing the other game 2-2, the hotshot forward warns he can't do it all on his own.
Wellecomme said: "I have been on a good goalscoring run and I want to get as many as I can. If I didn't, I wouldn't be a half-decent striker. I just hope I can keep them coming. Goals are not the problem, it's at the back where it's costing us, which is in stark contrast to last year.
"But I am sure we will sort those defensive errors. We will have to, at the minute we are scoring two goals a game and not winning. We need to shut up shop at the back when we have got our noses in front, because we definitely look like scoring everytime we go forward anyway."
