Thompson leaves Stafford for Telford
Stafford Rangers' on-loan striker Steve Thompson has left the club and joined local rivals AFC Telford on a contract until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old shipped out of Marston Road this week at the end of a month's deal from League Two Port Vale, and returned to Vale Park to reach a mutual agreement to leave the club permanently.
In came Rangers' Blue Square North rivals yesterday to offer the free agent a contract on a par, in terms of length, with the remainder of his deal with Vale - which the former Middlesbrough youngster has now signed.
The big-spending Bucks Head club had watched the player over his month with Rangers and, knowing manager Chris Brindley didn't have the financial clout to sign him permanently, moved into pole position.
Telford assistant manager Larry Chambers said: "We have had to be quite patient with Steve, but I have spoken to Port Vale boss Micky Adams over the last few days and we we are pleased to have come to an agreement.
"We have had him watched at Stafford and we think he can be a big threat for us. We have got him until the end of the season and then we can take it from there."
