Moult plans breakthrough over break

Stafford Rangers midfielder Jake Moult is looking to use the training field to force his way back into the team as the beleaguered squad regroup for a fortnight off.

The Marston Road men are not back in action until the visit of Stalybridge Celtic a week on Saturday, on the back of an FA Cup replay exit to Midland Alliance Coventry Sphinx and Saturday's 3-2 home reverse against Hinckley.

With the team shipping goals at an alarming rate, Moult is disappointed not to have an immediate chance to rebound, but accepts a chance to get back to basics in training could well be the answer.

He said: "These two weeks off have come at the wrong time really, losing two games was not what any of us wanted to take into it. We would prefer to get straight back on it, but at least we can go back to the training field over these two weeks and work hard on what we are doing wrong.

"Hopefully then we will be ready when we play again."

Moult only returned to action from a hip flexor injury in the FA Cup tie, before 58 minutes as a sub on Saturday.

The 20-year-old is now targeting firing on all cylinders from the starting line-up against Stalybridge.

He said: "On a personal note, my aim is just to back into the team for the next game after the break, so I will be looking to catch the eye of the manager in training over the next two weeks. In another respect, I am also glad to have these two weeks to get fully fit again.

"It should be a good rest period for us as a squad, because we are still carrying some injuries."
