Hemel Hempstead 2 Hednesford 2

A deserved last minute equaliser for Hemel Hempstead left Hednesford to rue missed earlier chances and exposed the lack of depth in the squad at present.

The Pitmen had made light of the blustery conditions away to carve out a 2-0 lead in a fine first half display.

Playing into the wind, the visitors had the bulk of the early possession and, in the 17th minute, a fine cross from Elliott Durrell was headed in by Ross Dyer to open the scoring.

Durrell was once again the provider seven minutes later, when a corner kick from the left found Tyrone Barnett in space and he guided the ball into the net with a beautifully controlled downward header which left goalkeeper Mike McEntegart with no chance.

The second-half started much as the first half had ended for the Pitmen and, in the 48th minute, Elliott Durrell delivered another fine free kick from the right that was just headed over by Ben Bailey.

But in the 65th minute a tactical change by the home side, putting an extra man into the midfield area, turned the game in their favour.

As the possession moved more in favour of the Tudors, Hednesford defensive line began to be pushed further back and in the 73rd minute the lead was reduced when substitute Tommy Black pulled one back scoring off the post.

As the minutes ticked away it looked as though Hednesford were going to just about hang on for the three points, with some valiant last ditch defending by the back four.

But, well into stoppage time, the Tudors capitalised on a failure to get the ball clear to squeeze in the equalising goal which their last 25 minutes of the game had deserved.

The Pitmen will look on this as two points lost and Bernie McNally will know that he has to bring some new faces to the club to shore up the depleted squad at his disposal.
