Ball leads the Dudley boys into battle

Hometown boxer Jamie Ball leads the all-Dudley supporting cast at 'the Venue' looking for one more big win before going under the knife.

The Coseley light middleweight has been told to have keyhole surgery on a torn cartilage in his knee, but the 25-year-old has vowed to first deal with Leicester's Simon Fleck next Friday night.

Ball also suffered from an injured back in his last fight against Ernie Smith, but battled through to remain unbeaten with a win in July.

And 'the Bully' believes it's no pain, no gain over six, three minute rounds on fight night.

He said: "This is another step up and I want that, the right opponents over the right rounds, so I can build up my endurance over the long haul. It's going to have to be a toe-to-toe fight, I can't be chasing him for six rounds."

Also from Coseley, light welter Richard Ghent will line up alongside his childhood friend Ball on the ground of his first stoppage, a three-round defeat of Jason Thompson in May.

The 21-year-old said: "There's a real buzz around the town about boxing again. The lads from Dudley that are fighting on this show, we are more than stable-mates, we are friends."

Brierley Hill welter Martin Gordon also broke his duck that night, outpointing Jason Nesbitt for his first win as a pro at the ninth attempt.

The 27-year-old has even been around long enough to have competed on a show at Dudley's old Concert Hall, a loss over the distance to Kristian Laight in April 2007.

Now the two will do battle again, with Gordon hoping to put his record straight.

He said: "I remember that fight, I went stupid trying to get down to the weight and I had nothing left. A two-year-old could have pushed me over! I hope it's an omen, because I have come on a million per cent since then."

Elsewhere on the show, Rowley Regis welter Jason Welborn is looking to get "busy" starting with only his fifth fight since turning pro in December 2005, while Dudley middleweight Sam Padgett has warned fight fans "don't bet against another knockout win" after his paid debut packed a punch at 'the Venue' in May.

In the main event, Cradley Heath super feather Chris Male fights for the right to be the No 1 contender to the Midland title in an eliminator against Birmingham's Sid Razak.

Dudley prospect Dean Anderson also makes his pro debut at featherweight.
