Anderson fighting on for debut

Dudley featherweight Dean Anderson is looking to take his never-say-die attitude into the professional ranks in his debut at 'the Venue.'

Dudley featherweight Dean Anderson has vowed to make up for lost time when he makes his professional debut at the third time of asking.

The 23-year-old won the Senior Novice Amateur Championship and reached the Clubs for Young People Boxing Championship final in just 21 fights as an amateur, boxing out of Priory Park ABC.

But Anderson wondered whether he would even fight once, as he suffers from bad asthma.

The condition has prolonged his professional bow, a planned debut in July having to be scrapped until the British Boxing Board of Control would grant him a licence.

Now the board have finally given the green light, Anderson is ready to become part of the new wave of feathers.

He said: "At the moment, there are a lot of young featherweights ready to take the division forward, while a lot of the established guys are coming to the end of their careers. It's time for the new crop to come through and hopefully with a few fights I can be a part of that.

"I want to get as much done in a short space of time as possible, I have already wasted enough time trying to get cleared medically."

Anderson has been chief sparring partner of Cradley Heath super-feather Chris Male in the run-up to fight night, as the 'Male Man' prepares to top the bill against Sid Razak in a Midland title eliminator.

This time last year, Male had just made his professional debut, an example which the new kid on the block takes heart from.

He added: "I think Chris will win at 'the Venue' - and then go on to be Midland champion."
