Let's do it for the boss urges skipper

Stafford Rangers skipper Bobby Wilson has called for the team to give manager Chris Brindley plenty of reasons not to quit - starting against Hinckley United.

Marston Road will expect against the Knitters in the Blue Square North tomorrow (3pm), after a disastrous home exit to Midland Alliance minnows Coventry Sphinx in the FA Cup replay on Tuesday night.

After watching his side capitulate to a side three leagues below them in the non-league pyramid, Brindley admitted after the game he was considering his future as boss.

But his 10-month reign has not come to an end yet, as the Rangers boss took the players for training last night and is expected to be in the dug-out for the game tomorrow.

Brindley has seen it all over his spell in charge, first stepping in to steer a club decimated by player exits and the departure of manager Steve Bull after financial cuts.

A successful battle against relegation ensued with a summer of rebuilding for the new season, but this latest setback has left the current manager at the end of his tether.

Now his captain has issued a rallying cry for the players to show Brindley what they are made of, starting with a convincing win in the league.

Wilson believes it's them, and only them, that can make their leader stay.

He said: "I wouldn't want Chris to go, none of us would. He is doing a good job and we will get there, there is a talented squad here and we are close to being something very good. If we find some consistency, we will do the manager proud.

"We must win tomorrow, to prove to everyone we are better than such a bad result. We need to do it for the gaffer, for the fans, for the board and for ourselves, because we have let them down. We will be pumped up and ready to go for it.

"As a young team and we need people to keep backing us, and we will give them 100 per cent in return."
