Notts landing for glory hungry Portman

West Bromwich's former World champion Marcus Portman believes he is in the best shape of his life as he prepares to get back among the pack in Nottingham next month.

The former WBF title holder joins hometown buddy Young Mutley on the undercard to Carl Froch's defence of the WBC super-middleweight title against Andre Dirrell at the Trent Arena on October 17.

Portman takes on Sheffield's Tyan Booth for the vacant Midlands light middleweight crown, only his second fight in 15 months.

And the 28-year-old is desperate to rejoin the title race after challenging for British, Commonwealth and World honours.

He said: "I have trained a lot harder for this fight, in fact the hardest I have ever trained. I usually have problems with my weight because I pack a lot of muscle, but I am walking around at 11-and-a-half stone already.

"This is a 10-rounder against a tough lad for a title, but the belt doesn't mean a lot to me. What is more important is making people sit up and take notice that Marcus Portman is back.

"The light middleweight division is wide open, I have been in there for the big prizes before and want to back in the hunt as soon as possible."
