Wolves speedway skipper Peter Karlsson is out of the club's play-off semi-final return with a broken collarbone.

But the captain may yet make a sensational return for BOTH legs of the final – assuming Wolves qualify.

The Swedish star suffered the injury after hitting fallen Lakeside rider Stuart Robson in heat 11 of last night's 56-40 Wolves victory at Monmore Green. The immediate assumption was that the 39-year-old would be ruled out of Wolves' Elite League title bid.

But team boss Peter Adams said: "I'm not so sure. It's a clean sort of break. It doesn't appear to be detached from other bones.

"He knows the doctor in Gothenburg who looks after the Swedish national football team. He's going to have a natter with him and then possibly see the specialist Brian Simpson at Ipswich.

"It's not far from Lakeside, so he's thinking of doing that and watching the meeting.

"We will see if we can get him back in two weeks, instead of the four to six weeks that they told him at New Cross Hospital.

"I've known riders ride before in two weeks after breaking a collarbone. It depends on the complexity of the fracture."

A two-week absence would see Karlsson able to take his place in the team for both legs of the final on October 5 and 12.
