Mills set to return to Rangers squad
Stafford Rangers striker Ben Mills could be back in the squad to go to Harrogate but faces a fight to reclaim his place in the starting line-up.
The 20-year-old has been out since picking up an ankle injury after scoring in the August Bank Holiday home game against Solihull Moors, which forced manager Chris Brindley to bring in Steve Thompson on loan from League Two Port Vale to plug the hole.
And Thompson has shone in his place alongside Nick Wellecomme, with two goals apiece in three games since their first start together at Droylsden.
His future is uncertain after the end of his deal when Rangers are at home to Hinckley on October 3 but - with Mills lacking match fitness - could well retain the shirt in North Yorkshire tomorrow (3pm).
Brindley said: "Ben may be available tomorrow, whether he will come back into the side I don't know, as the two strikers have shone in his absence. Steve in particular has looked very lively and played well last week.
"When everybody is fit, we have got enough players, but that has just not been the case for us this season."
The manager has also been boosted by the return to training of winger Luke Morgan, who has been out for over a month, although the trip may have come too soon for the wide man.
But midfielder Jake Moult is looking at another couple of weeks out with an abductor muscle injury, while goalkeeper Lee Evans is again a doubt with an on-going ankle problem.
In fact, Brindley has yet to pick a side with the luxury of a full-strength side some 10 games into the Blue Square North season.
And his side are leaking goals at an alarming rate at the back, some 14 conceded in the last three games, a big problem which the manager admits needs to be addressed.
He said: "We are hopeful with every game, you take what comes. It's a game we can take something from. We are capable of getting a result and we are playing well enough, but we have got to tighten up defensively.
"If we can do that, we have a chance of three points."
