Brittain set for warm welcome
Kidderminster Harriers will welcome back their injured former player Martin Brittain with his new club Gateshead - but there will be no friends come kick-off.
The wide man, who was released in the summer to return to his native Tyneside, is expected to receive a warm applause from home fans tomorrow (3pm) for his efforts over a one-season stay at Aggborough.
Brittain is currently recovering from a horrific double leg break suffered playing for Ian Bogie's side against Hayes & Yeading 13 days ago, with the match abandoned as a result.
After the final whistle that fateful day, news filtered through to Aggborough - where Harriers were at home to Eastbourne - of what had happened.
Manager Mark Yates recalled the horror in the dressing room.
He said: "We all looked to each other and said 'please, don't let it be Martin.' He is a great lad and a really good player for us while he was here. I have spoken to him a couple of times since and I am sure I he will get over it.
"It's a blow, but he has the character to get through it."
But Yates' only focus will be on Brittain and Gateshead going home with nothing after the first ball is kicked, with Harriers again looking to bounce back after dropping two points to a goal in the last five minutes in last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Histon.
The team have three wins, a draw and a defeat from their last six games, leaving them 11th in the table.
And the manager wants them marching upwards by the close of play tomorrow.
He said: "Gateshead are a decent team, they play the right way and are decent at it, so it's going to be tough. But we are at home, so hopefully we can get about them and put them under pressure.
"We need a good performance and three points in front of our own fans."
