Harriers assessing walking wounded

Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates will run the rule over his walking wounded today with a view to league action at the weekend.

Harriers were left with Gavin Caines, Dean Bennett and John Finnigan nursing knocks after last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Histon, while striker Robbie Matthews is still on the sidelines with a calf injury.

The big forward is due to return in a week or so, while the others are due in with physio Gavin Crowe to assess their chances of making Saturday's home game against Gateshead.

Defender Caines is the biggest doubt of the three with an ankle injury, but Bennett's sore toe and Finnigan's ankle have not stopped them training today.

The midfield duo are almost certain to be fit for Saturday, and the manager should know by the end of the day whether his centre-half will be.

Yates said: "We have got a small squad, so we need our players to be available on match-days.

"With the injuries in mind, we have done a bit of cardio stuff and tried to give the players a rest this week, but over the next couple of days we will sharpen them up and get them ready for Saturday.

"It's football today and tomorrow for the boys."
