Amos could be gone for good

Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley has admitted that Nick Amos could have played his last game for the club after the success of his game-to-game move to Hednesford.

The veteran defender has started every game for the Pitmen since moving to Keys Park at the end of last month, initially to improve his fitness after a spell on the sidelines with bruised ribs.

Amos has played four games since but has still to receive the call from Brindley, even when Rangers had an injury crisis last week with six players out.

Even then the 34-year-old was not considered, despite his versatility at being able to play in midfield as well as centre-half.

And Brindley has given the strongest hint yet that he may well not be coming back.

The manager said: "It looks like Nick could well be stopping at Hednesford now. He went there to play games, he has to look after his own interests and I understand that.

"I don't think he wants to leave us, but he has got into their team and that is his place to lose now. I know he's enjoying himself there and it's up to him really, so he may well be gone.

"We will have to see what the player decides."

Rangers have been drawn at Coventry Sphinx in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

The Midland Alliance club, conquerors of Rushall Olympic in the last round, welcome Brindley's men to their Spinhx Drive ground a week on Saturday.
