The new champions, who had not led the table all season, timed their climb to the top perfectly with their 158-run victory over Old Wulfs Tettenhall, before beating the same opponents yesterday in the Staffs Clubs League Cup to complete a memorable double.

Saturday's 25-point success was enough to propel Dave Wedge's side above Beacon, who could only manage a winning draw at Penkridge.

Pelsall, who also went into the final day with a chance of the title, beat Bloxwich by 66 runs but Brewood's victory put Richard Cooper's men out of the running.

Wedge said: "It will be the first time we have ever been in the Birmingham League and I am really proud of the team.

"It is the result of a lot of hard work from everyone at the club."

Old Wulfs' Saturday defeat condemned them to a place in the bottom two along with Whittington, who lost to Springvale.
