Boss' challenge for recalled Knights

Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates has told attacker Darryl Knights a starting place is now his to lose after his impressive recall.

The youngster was at the hub of everything playing in the hole supporting striker Matthew Barnes-Homer against Mansfield on Tuesday night, with his partner subsequently turning in his best performance of the season so far.

Harriers went on to win 3-1 against the early promotion contenders at Aggborough, with Knights now set to keep his place in his preferred position for Saturday's trip to Histon.

Having warmed the bench for the last few games, Yates was delighted with the former Yeovil player's message to his manager.

He said: "Darryl was excellent in the hole on Tuesday night, he's a good player and we know that. He had a great little game and worked his socks off. I was delighted to his response to being out of the team, he has patiently waited for his chance.

"Sometimes you respond to results with changes, the team now and again needs to be freshened up and inevitably there will be casualties. Being on the bench is not where 'Knightsy' wants to be, hopefully he will now realise what keeps him in the team.

"He's a young boy and big player for us on his day."

Yates also continued to refute any suggestion that Knights could be leaving the club, after speculation that the player was angling for a move.

The manager added: "It was a new one to me when it came out and there was absolutely nothing in it, I have spoken to him about it."
