Harriers boss looks to get in the pack

Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates is hoping his side will be amongst the pack making early waves at the top of the league before the Bank Holiday weekend is out.

The Blue Square Premier double-header takes in the visit of Altrincham tomorrow (3pm), before a trip to play promoted Tamworth at the Lambs Ground on Bank Holiday Monday.

Harriers sit 13th with seven points from five games, three of those gleaned from last Saturday's 3-1 win at Grays, which has renewed the 'feel good' feeling in the camp after two defeats either side of a draw.

And Yates' men walloped Alty in the corresponding fixture on August Bank Holiday Saturday last year, a 4-0 win that set the team up for a run of one defeat in nine games.

But the manager has warned that means nothing now and will not be taking Tamworth likely, either.

He said: "That result means nothing now. Altrincham have made a great start this season and have won both their away games, so it's going to be tough for us. But we are playing some decent stuff at the minute, so hopefully we can carry that on.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, Tamworth will be a very tough place to go on Monday. They have started very well, again, and are riding high from last season, so it's a tough place to go.

"It's a big weekend for us, hopefully we can pick up some points and get in that pack sooner rather than later."

Yates must decide whether to recall fit-again forward Robbie Matthews, after the success of going with lone striker Matthew Barnes-Homer at Grays.

Someone will have to be sacrificed from a winning team if he is to return, although it's not a call the manager has made as yet.

He said: "We have brought Robbie in to score goals and be a big threat for us. I will watch him train again today and see where we go from there."
