Thorley's cracker seals Rangers win

Tom Thorley helped steer Stafford Rangers to their second successive Blue Square North win with a 2-1 victory at Redditch.

The 19-year-old former Stoke youngster curled a free-kick around the wall and beyond goalkeeper Danny Lewis to cancel out United's opener just minutes earlier.

An own goal early in the second half then wrapped up the points for Rangers but it was Thorley's super strike that had boss Chris Brindley smiling.

"Tom Thorley is a genius player and that was a great strike," the manager admitted.

"It's always important to hit back immediately after conceding and we did that with a great goal – a bit of quality.

"There has been plenty of doom and gloom around the club so we need to enjoy it when we win."

With first choice keeper Lee Evans nursing an ankle injury, replacement Tom Harrison must also be doubtful for Saturday's home match against Farsley Celtic after he injured his foot in the first half.

Danny Allen came on for the second half and the 18-year-old was another to impress the manager.

"Danny has come in and had an outstanding game," Brindley said.

"It wasn't just the shot-stopping but also with the crosses, he did a great job for us.

"He has been handed the opportunity and has taken it.

"He had an outstanding second half and if it wasn't for him they would probably have scored a second goal.

"We have another four days now but if Lee and Tom aren't fit then I'd have no qualms about putting Danny in, especially on the evidence of today.

"We are having an horrendous run of injuries – I've brought in a keeper Lee Evans and he's not played yet!"
