Backing for Mills after breaking duck

Stafford Rangers striker Ben Mills has been backed to fire the goals that can propel the club up the table after breaking his duck.

Team-mate and good friend Jake Moult reckons the summer signing can now hit a hot streak, after getting off the mark with a deflected effort in the home win against Workington in the Blue Square North.

The 20-year-old had been replaced in his first home and away starts without finding the net but played 86 minutes on Saturday, as the home side ran out comfortable winners.

Now Moult - who played with Mills at Leek before both moved to Marston Road - has backed the young forward to produce the goods on a regular basis.

The midfielder said: "Ben will probably tell you it was a bit of a lucky goal, but that will be a great confidence booster for him. Now hopefully he can push on and get a few more to get us creeping up the table again.

"He will definitely be able to build on it, for sure."

Rangers' 2-0 win against the Reds put the first points on the board at Marston Road, Mills' 19th minute opener putting them on their way before trialist sub Fabrice Kassiama's 20-yard strike six minutes from time.

Moult saw it all unfold over 90 minutes in the centre of the park.

He said: "It was a much better performance and much needed - the fans were as desperate for the win as we were. We will take confidence from that display and now we must push on, picking up points wherever we can.

"We just need to keep going and see where we end up."
