Home where the heart is for Rangers

Stafford manager Chris Brindley is planning to lay Rangers' home hoodoo to rest in Marston Road's first game of the season against promoted Corby.

The Blue Square North club aim to bounce back from Saturday's opening day defeat at Hyde against their big-spending visitors tonight (7:45pm), who started their campaign in style with a 3-0 drubbing of Harrogate.

Graham Drury's side can boast the likes of experienced Football League campaigners Gavin Strachan and Mark Stallard in their ranks after splashing the cash for the challenge ahead, after romping to the Southern League title last term.

And Rangers' form at Marston Road was their bug-bare for large parts of last season, with seven home league games passing without a win from October to January, although they were unbeaten in five out of eight to close out 2008/09.

Brindley knows that - if last season's to the penultimate game relegation fight is to be avoided - home form is likely to play a big part.

Now the manager has called on his side to start with the right attitude in front of their own fans.

He said: "Our home form has to be better this season, we know that. You will always have a better chance of winning on your own ground, rather than away. It's important that we start with a good result, hopefully we can build on that if we do.

"Corby have spent a lot of money and have bought themselves a lot of good players, so it's going to be a really tough game. But we are getting more competitive, so we just need to keep plugging away.

"We will looking to do well tonight."

Rangers will be without left-back Richard Vauls (severe blisters) and goalkeeper Lee Evans (foot).

Trialist Fabia Kassia will step in at the back, with fellow free agent Harrison to continue between the sticks.
