Harriers boss' promise to Courtney

Kidderminster manager Mark Yates has assured Duane Courtney he will get his chance despite his omission from the first team of the Blue Square Premier season.

Liam Dolman was preferred to Courtney at right-back for the 1-0 win against Hayes & Yeading at Aggborough on Saturday, although the two did switch in a 66th minute substitution.

Now the rivals for the berth will again jostle to be in the thoughts of the Harriers boss at Salisbury tomorrow night, before another trip to Ebbsfleet on Saturday.

John Finnigan and Kyle Hadley are also pushing for starts in midfield after cameo roles in the season opener, leaving Yates with some tough calls to make this week.

But he has first gone to assure Courtney that he is very much a part of the picture.

The manager said: "Duane has no reason to worry, he is well in my plans. I just thought that, for this particular game, Liam would get on the ball a bit and help us to bring it forward.

"There is no worries for anyone on the first day, they will all get their chance."

Harriers' win on Saturday, courtesy of Matthew Barnes-Homer's first-half goal, was the first time Yates has tasted success at the third attempt as manager on the opening day.

It was the second season in a row he had faced a promoted side at home to kick-off, and could not hide his pleasure with the first three points on the board.

He said: "I was delighted with the result and we deserved it. There's plenty to work on, because we were not at our usual tempo. They were never going to any more up for it, they got plenty of men behind the ball and my players deserved plenty of credit for breaking them down.

"Now we can concentrate on two away tough fixtures this week."
