The Italian confirmed Baggies officials are working behind the scenes on potential incoming transfers, with 10 days remaining before the start of the Championship season.

Di Matteo declined to rule out a move for 21-year-old Reid, whom he bid for when in charge of Milton Keynes Dons last month.

Asked about the player, the head coach said: "We are working behind the scenes and talking to a few people. We get linked on a daily basis with a lot of players.

"But at the moment I have no news."

Rotherham manager Mark Robins has confirmed unnamed Championship clubs are in talks with the League Two outfit over former Kidderminster loanee Reid, who bagged 19 goals for the Millers last season.

The Yorkshire side agreed a £200,000 deal with Blackpool over a week ago but Reid has yet to complete the move, suggesting he is keen to talk to other interested parties.

MK Dons had a £100,000 bid turned down in the final weeks of Di Matteo's reign.

The Italian also confirmed Fulham have made no new contact with the Baggies over captain Jonathan Greening, since having a £4million bid rejected.
