Mutley fires back at British champion

Young Mutley has restarted the slanging match with Kell Brook after a barrage of potshots ended with an 'anywhere, anytime' challenge to the British champion.

The 33-year-old from West Bromwich has twice been pencilled in to face Brook this year for his old welterweight crown, only for injuries to each fighter to put pay to the much-anticipated clash.

It was after the cancellation of the second fight at the famed York Hall in Bethnal Green that it started to get personal, with the champion making fun of the challenger's nickname and suggesting he was running scared from 'Special Kell.'

Now Mutley - who returned to training this week with a view to a September fight - has fired back in the war of words.

He said: "He was on about I have got a dogs name, well Kell is a girls name and he talks like a girl! And isn't someone on TV called Kelly Brook?

"But, to be serious, he has got a big mouth and he is going to have to back it up against me! It's disrespectful to other boxers, Kell has got far too much to say and no-one wants to to hear it.

"Boxers have to be confident, but you have to draw the line somewhere. He is full of it."

Mutley - real name Lee Woodley - was originally scheduled to face Brook at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on April 24, only for the 23-year-old to back out with an injured hand.

The fight was then rescheduled for May 22, before the challenger withdrew with a rib injury.

Then came the champion's verbal attack on his rival - only to then have to pull out himself with more hand problems.

Comments aside, Brook does present some challenge after 20 straight wins as a pro - 13 of those by knockout - the latest a three-round drubbing of Michael Lomax at York Hall last Saturday night.

But Mutley warns he has never faced anyone like him.

He said: "The worst thing about it is I respect Kell Brook as a fighter, and I see a lot of myself in him.

"But he needs a good test, if he fought me he would have that. He calls his left hook 'the chocolate brownie,' well there is nobody out there that can punch like me.

"When the fight was announced, it got a lot of people talking in boxing and it would be a shame if it never happened."
