Harriers sign Farrell for Albion visit
Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates has signed trial striker Aaron Farrell on a one-year deal ahead of the visit of a young Albion side to Aggborough.
The 23-year-old joins from Sutton Coldfield Town and will be in the squad for the visit of the Baggies tonight (7:30pm)., where the home boss will again run the rule over his players ahead of the big season kick off in 15 days time.
He will also be keeping a keen eye on the opposition, as well.
Some of the young Hawthorns hopefuls could be marked down as potential targets by the manager, with a view to monitoring their progress and availability down the line.
It is a policy that landed Harriers Lee Baker last year, who initially came to the club on loan from Albion to then sign a 18-month deal in January.
He has since established himself as the first-choice left-back.
Yates admits he would love for that to happen again.
He said: "Of course I will be looking at their team, I look everywhere for players. But, at the minute, we are just concentrating on getting ourselves game time and Albion will be another good test for us.
"The aim is for some of the boys to get under 90 minutes under their belts, we shall have a look at people and see where we are."
Farrell has plenty to celebrate after finally becoming a bona-fide member of the Harriers' first-team, after initially failing to make the grade as a youth-team player at Aggborough more than six years ago.
He can now leave the part-time game and concentrate 24-7 on his dream of becoming a Blue Square Premier star, the second player to be given that opportunity after the signing of Stourbridge winger Kyle Hadley earlier this week.
The striker said: "I've come quite a long way to be fair, learning a lot about the game. I still have a lot to learn, but scoring goals is the main thing for me.
"When I was here with the youth I was the top scorer, but just didn't get that chance at the time to progress into the first team.
"Now I've come in and worked hard again. The manager has given me a chance, told me to show what I can do and I am thankful for that.
"I am ready to do my job now."
