Lichfield hoping for win launchpad

Lichfield skipper Adam Braddock is hoping his team's mauling of title-chasing Bridgnorth last week can propel them back up the table.

Brewood snatched the Staffs Club Cricket Championship from under the noses of Beacon as star all-rounder Chris Pearce hit 130 runs and bagged a five-wicket haul.

The one-time leaders ended a four-match losing run by defeating second-placed Bridgnorth in a low-scoring match on a wet wicket.

Despite the unusual nature of the win, Braddock is optimistic that a taste of success can restore his players' early-season confidence.

He said: "We had lost four in a row so it was really nice to get back to winning ways.

"We had been a bit unlucky with losing tosses and batting first on damp wickets, but we still lost four games and it never does much for the team.

"Bridgnorth are one of the stronger sides so hopefully beating them will give us a nice boost."

Braddock is set to name an unchanged side for Saturday's match with Coleshill.

Milford Hall have called up Richard Millward to face leaders Whitchurch on Saturday, as they look to bounce back from their heavy defeat last weekend.

Millward steps up from the second XI looking to help Milford recover from being skittled for 62, on the way to an eight-wicket defeat to Coleshill.

First-choice wicketkeeper Chris Metcalf is back from holiday and will replace Mark Shreehorn.

Fordhouses captain Russell Thompson has told his promotion-chasing side that the next three matches could shape their hopes for the rest of the summer.

Thompson's men take on second-placed Bridgnorth at home on Saturday, looking to continue their long unbeaten run.

They have not tasted defeat since the fourth week of the season and Thompson believes a continuation of that run will keep them in the hunt.

He said: "We've got Bridgnorth on Saturday, then Studley, who were the last team to beat us, and then Aston Unity, who are bottom.

"We will be looking for at least two positive results from those matches, after which we could have a much better idea of where we stand."

Fordhouses will name an unchanged team this week, after they held on for four points from a losing draw against leaders Whitchurch last Saturday.
