Fans taking note of new Harriers
Kidderminster manager Mark Yates believes his new-look and patched-up team is starting to win over the fans at Aggborough.
Harriers beat a strong Hereford side 3-2 in a pre-season friendly at Aggborough last night, despite fielding six trialists in the starting line-up.
Such free agents have been used to pad out a squad originally decimated by a raft of player exits at the end of last season, with the first two signed on a permanent basis this week in defender Duane Courtney and winger Kyle Hadley.
Yates has also been able to persuade the likes of Chris McPhee, Martin Riley, Brian Smikle, Dean Bennett and David McDermott to return to the club for next term.
For the first time, a semblance of a team is starting to take shape and the Aggborough faithful are starting to take note.
The manager said: "A number of them have come to me and said that they are glad we are doing what we are doing, and are glad that we are taking time to bring in the quality of players that we are."
Goalkeeper Kyle Letheren, Joe Wilcox, Liam Dolman, Tom Sharpe, Gavin Caines, Robert Elvins and Aaron Farrell all started last night's match as free agents.
While the manager admitted that one or two of them had maybe played themselves into the frame for contracts, he also warns that he cannot keep them all.
Especially with the plan of bids for talent from outside the club still in motion.
Yates said: "One or two of the boys came in and gave me food for thought last night. It's that time where I have got to say no to one or two, but perhaps another one or two deserve something and can be accomomdated within our squad.
"Ideally, I would have my squad sorted by now. We haven't, but thats not a problem.
"There are one or two irons in the fire that are not here as we speak, we are just waiting on a couple of things to happen."
