Wolves beaten by table toppers

Wolverhampton's Premier Division title hopes suffered a major setback as they crashed to defeat against table-topping Knowle & Dorridge.

Brewood snatched the Staffs Club Cricket Championship from under the noses of Beacon as star all-rounder Chris Pearce hit 130 runs and bagged a five-wicket haul.

The Danescourt men started the league's match of the day just two points behind their rivals, but were totally outplayed as K&D eased to a 123-run success.

Indian leg-spinner Sairaj Bahatule again impressed for Wolverhampton with figures of 4-58, but even his efforts failed to stop K&D posting a daunting 277-7.

In reply, only David Wheeldon with 52 showed any real resistance as Wolves were dismissed for 154.

Himley climbed into third place, as they returned to winning ways with an eight-wicket victory over Leamington Spa.

Chris Tranter claimed 4-13 as Leamington were dismissed for 110. Dan Bassett then steered Himley home with an unbeaten 51.

Former Warwickshire and England one-day international Dougie Brown sentanced Kidderminster to a 15-run defeat at Barnt Green.

Brown bagged figures of 6-35 as Kidderminster fell for 133 in response to the home side's 148-8.

Walsall's clash with Shrewsbury was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Aniket Redkar shone with the ball, as Smethwick boosted their Division One promotions hopes with a tense victory at Coventry NW.

Redkar took 6-51 as the home side were dismissed for 199, off the penultimate ball of the match.

Smethwick had earlier posted 252-8, with Aqsad Ali top scoring with 64.

Mohammed Ishtiaq and Imran Ali both claimed four wickets to fire Halesowen's push for victory over Berkswell.

An unbeaten 50 from Ben Cox then saw Halesowen overhaul Berkswell's 105, with five wickets in hand.

Old Hill's lower order came to the rescue, as the Haden Hill men claimed a winning draw at home to Shifnal.

The hosts had been reduced to 45-5 before Chris Bending with 54 and Carl Whyte with 28 kick-started a recovery by adding 72 for the sixth wicket.

Elliott Wilson then chipped in with a useful 25 to boost Old Hill's total to 188. Wilson then took 3-15, as Shifnal batted out for a draw.

Wombourne are the new leaders in Division Two, after a tense one-wicket success over Penn in a low scoring game.

Adam Quiney bagged 5-3 from 10 overs as Penn were shot out for 119.

But Wombourne were made to fight, with the winning runs coming with the last pair at the crease. Depesh Patel took 5-49 for Penn.

Cannock turned on the style as they hammered former table-toppers Brockhampton.

Mike Talbot took 5-9 as Brockhampton were rolled over for 43 – a total that never tested Cannock as they strolled home by seven wickets.

In Division Three, Lichfield bagged a notable win in a low scoring affair with high-flying Bridgnorth.
