Harriers 0 Wolves 0 - verdict

Kidderminster Harriers and a young Wolves side cancelled each other out with resilient defensive displays at Aggborough.

But the Blue Square Premier side came the closest to making the breakthrough, when Dean Bennett – a former Albion youngster – rattled the crossbar from 20-yards in the second half.

Harriers skipper Chris McPhee also hit the outside of the post in the 79th minute, before Wolves goalkeeper Richard Woolley's outstretched legs saved Kyle Hadley's shot with eight minutes left.

It was the first sustained period of pressure the home side had managed, against a Wolves defence fit to grace any shadow side.

Neill Collins, £1million man Jason Shackell and Darren Ward comprised three of the back-four, along with promising reserve centre-half Danny Batth.

In front of watching manager Mick McCarthy - with development coach Steve Weaver taking the team – they will have done their profile no harm at all.

But at the other end the Premier League side were not so clinical.

Ashley Hemmings – partnering trialist Paris Simmons in attack – twice wriggled away from the Harriers defence to shoot, only for goalkeeper Dean Coleman to comfortably gather both efforts.

At the other end, Gavin Strachan put a free-kick right down Woolley's throat, but the young Wolves goalkeeper was later left fooled by Darryl Knights' deflected effort, which bounced wide.

Harriers made four changes at half-time after starting with five trial players in the team, while Wolves sent on Sam Winnall – who lasted all of four minutes.

The luckless striker damaged his leg turning on the ball unchallenged, and had to be replaced by Michael Wardle.

He will now undergo a scan to establish the extent of the damage, after leaving Aggborough on crutches after the match.

Trial winger Perez, a 16-year-old Dutch youngster, also endured a strange afternoon – replaced by Winnall at half-time, then sent back on for Kyle Bennett in the 63rd minute.

But he did make a telling contribution in defence three minutes after his re-introduction, hacking away an Arron Farrell ball into the box which was destined for the boot of fellow sub Hadley.
