Trip down memory lane for Brindley

Stafford Rangers manager Chris Brindley will take another trip down memory lane when his team play at Hednesford.

Keys Park hosts the first game tomorrow (3pm) of a two-legged friendly competition for the Cannock Chase Charity trophy, with the return match at Marston Road on August 1.

For Brindley, it's a homecoming - and not for the first time.

The Rangers boss is still the publican of the Cross Keys, literally across the road from the ground.

He started his career there before going to Wolves, went onto to score the winning goal in the Pitmen's famous FA Trophy final win in 2004 and later managed the club.

Now he takes his Blue Square North side to meet Dean Edwards' men with the emphasis on friendly, but neither side will want to go into the second game with nothing to play for.

Brindley said: "There are a lot of great memories for me there and it's always great to go back there. It will be good for everyone, two competitive games in which we have a lot to do.

"Hopefully it will be fairly even after the first leg for when we come back to Marston Road."

Rangers have also added a friendly at Stone Old Alleynians to their pre-season schedule.

The two will meet at Springbank in Stone on Tuesday July 21 (7:45pm).
