Finnigan welcomes Harriers interest
Kidderminster transfer target John Finnigan has issued a 'come and get me' plea for the club to rescue him from the cold at Cheltenham.
The transfer-listed former Robins skipper has spoken to Harriers boss Mark Yates about the prospect of a free transfer move, with the two in touch as recently as last Friday.
But there are issues to be resolved - the 33-year-old still has a year left on his deal at Whaddon Road, which will need to be settled before he can make a move.
Other clubs are also interested, although Finnigan would only confirm Newport as a club with whom there had been contact.
His friendship with both Yates and his assistant Neil Howarth - the three all played together for the Robins - could sway the deal, with Aggborough also a convenient distance from the player's Tewkesbury home.
Now the veteran midfielder has urged Harriers to step up their bid, although he admits a move is a "long way off."
He said: "I was in Kidderminster on Friday, in fact I have been there a couple of times since the end of the season. Mark and Neil are old team-mates of mine, so we know and respect each other.
"It's a long way off at the moment, I have got a settlement on the rest of my deal at Cheltenham to sort out but I am open to offers. If any manager wants to speak to me, I will give them that time.
"Harriers are a very similar club to where I am, I have enjoyed seven years here and I am sure I would enjoy it at Aggborough."
Finnigan has also been linked to Blue Square Premier side Wrexham, but denies there has been any approach.
He said: "I haven't spoken to anyone at Wrexham. I have had people speak to Newport on my behalf, but that is as far as that one has gone really."
Harriers currently have Gavin Strachan - son of former Scotland international and recently departed Celtic boss Gordon - on trial in central midfield but he is keeping his options open.
The former Premier League midfielder with Coventry is due to turn out with promoted Blue Square North side Corby in a friendly against Huddersfield tomorrow.
And Steelmen boss Graham Drury has refused to rule out a permanent move for the 30-year-old.
He said: "If I feel he's better than what we've got at the moment then, of course, I'd like to bring him in."
