Four more for Rangers boss Brindley

Stafford Rangers have signed four more players for 2009/10 as the club returned for pre-season training this week.

And the marquee name of the quartet is Leek striker Ben Mills - manager Chris Brindley has got his man after months of pursuing the young forward.

Three familar faces from last season are also returning with versatile defender Nick Amos heading the list, joined by full-back's Andre Francis and Jon Patrick.

Mills is the new man on board, a player Rangers first moved for in January, only for the 19-year-old to reject the move.

He opted to stay in the UniBond League Division One South with Leek, but now has taken a second chance to make the step up two levels into the Blue Square North.

But the teenager has done similar before, he came through the youth ranks at Harrison Park to hit double figures last term.

Brindley feels he can have a similar effect at Marston Road.

He said: "We have been chasing Ben for a long time and we are glad we have got our man. He is a big, strong lad and this place is set up for him now. He has bags of potential, hopefully he can fulfill that here.

"I have every confidence he will do just fine for us."

Retaining Amos is another boost for Rangers, the 31-year-old may have saw most of last season disrupted by knee injuries but he is much needed at centre-half, after the summer departures of Stuart Pierpoint and former skipper Wayne Daniel.

With the latter vacating the armband, former Halesowen captain Amos could also be considered to lead the side.

Francis is looked upon as an option to fill the breach at right-back, while Patrick has took the left ever since joining the club from Walsall in March.

Brindley feels the trio bring much to the squad.

He said: "Nick is a versatile player who can play in a number of positions and that is what we need. We won't have a massive squad this season, so we need people who can fill holes when needed.

"It's the same with Andre, he can play anywhere down the right-hand side. I am more than happy for him to stay. He is a great club man - they both are - and will be useful for us this season.

"John did well for us last season and he is a young lad that is only going to get better."
