Wolves win again at Peterborough

Wolves followed up a fine victory at Lakeside with a dominant one at Peterborough to win 49-41 and stay ahead of the pack in the Elite League.

Fredrik Lindgren oozed class and was untouchable with a 15-point maximum – ideal preparation for the Grand Prix at Cardiff – while there was strong backing right down the line.

Peter Karlsson, still fondly remembered at the Showground for his season on loan there, was paid for a dozen.

Reserve Hynek Stichauer, in his 16th match as a Wolf, saw the chequered flag for the very first time.

It was no gimme either. The Czech rider, on a big circuit far more akin to his native Pardubice, beat two of the Panthers' top three scorers in Danish international Mads Korneliussen and his fellow countryman Claus Vissing.

Indeed, had Stichauer not been left shaken after being brought down in his final race, a heavy fall for which Henning Bager was excluded, he might have scored a little more.

Wolves, with Tai Woffinden and Nicolai Klindt also in the thick of it, had 12 of the 15 race winners.

But, with Peterborough packing the minor spots more often than not, it was all square with three races left.

That scenario paints a rosy picture these days with the Lindgren and Karlsson pairing set to run in two of those races, they didn't disappoint in the 'big guns' in heat 13.

Peterborough gated on a 4-2 but Lindgren worked his way past Niels-Kristian Iversen, just at the time that Karlsson accounted for Kenneth Bjerre.

Adam Skornicki took the next from Vissing after Bager's exclusion, Stichauer gallantly picking himself up for the rerun and collecting a point.

That left Wolves four points clear going into the last – curiously, just as they had been at Lakeside 24 hours earlier. But again Lindgren and Karlsson faced the pressure.

Again they delivered – where the 4-2 in Essex merely underlined their team's superiority, their dominant 5-1 over Iversen and Bjerre yielded the precious bonus of a fourth league point which keeps Wolves top of the charts.

They have now taken 10 league points in four days and won six matches on the bounce. Fans are daring to dream the dream.
