Tenth home win for super Wolves

But, in a lively clash, it took a man of the match effort from Aussie Ty Proctor to get them there.

It may seem harsh on Swede Fredrik Lindgren, again unbeaten all night and with three dominant victories over Hans Andersen to boot, to bestow the laurels on Proctor.

But excellence has been Lindgren's stock in trade this season, while Proctor's paid 12 was a welcome return to his best after some slightly lower-key performances.

Wolves needed it too, as a dogged Poole side clung to their coat-tails throughout a fine night's racing.

The Pirates, with Andersen bending the knee only to Lindgren in his first four races, were just six adrift with four races left and threatening to be the first visiting side to dig out a point at Monmore this season.

But a keynote of Wolves' performances this season has been their ability to come on strong in the later races.

It happened again when Proctor passed Joe Screen and Paul Fry within a third of a lap, to join Tai Woffinden at the front for a valuable heat 12 5-1.

That brought Andersen to the line next time out in the double-point black and white helmet, with every chance of putting Poole back in the hunt.

But Lindgren had other ideas and was rapidly off into the distance, as Andersen and Peter Karlsson passed and re-passed in the battle for second.

Fittingly, on a night when British Speedway Museum officials were present, it was 39-year-old Karlsson who won through and Wolves were all but secure.

Poole had a last throw of the dice in heat 14, with Pedersen also donning the black and white.

A win for the Dane and a scoring position for Wednesday's Wimborne Road hero Paul Fry would have given the visitors a shot at a point in the final heat.

Adam Skornicki snuffed out the immediate danger by relegating Fry to the back, but Wolves really rubbed it in when Proctor sprinted inside Pedersen to claim a notable scalp and clinch all three points.

Lindgren rounded off affairs by underlining his Monmore Green dominance in completing a paid maximum in the final race, Andersen at least having the satisfaction of winning his personal "best of three" decider against Karlsson.
